More 80’s costume ideas, continued from Part 1 and Part 2!
4. Madonna. Nothing says 80’s like Madonna, pre-motherhood and faux British accent, that is. Our 80’s Lace Lolita costume is perfect for Madonna – compare to this pic. If you’re more of a do-it-yourselfer, create a costume with some lace ankle socks, lace gloves, and a Madonna wig.
5. Debbie Gibson was a pop star with a more innocent teen vibe than the racy Madonna. She was known for her black hats, blazers with big shoulder pads (like in this pic), and torn jeans.
6. The funky, spunky Punky Brewster! In the 80s, I loved Punky and wanted to dress just like her. Punky was known for wearing layers, bright colors – especially ones that didn’t exactly match – jeans with one pant leg rolled up and a colorful bandana or scarf tied around the other leg. She had dark hair usually styled in pigtails – often ornamented with bright plastic ponytail holders – and she wore two different colors of Converse sneakers. The ultimate accessory would be a Golden Retriever or a stuffed animal pup like Punky’s dog Brandon.
Make it a group costume by dressing up like some of Punky’s friends – Cherie, Allen, Margeaux, and of course Henry!
7. Flashdance. Jennifer Beals in Flashdance made the oversize sweatshirt look sexy. Essential ingredients for a Flashdance costume: oversize sweatshirt with the neck cut out so that it hangs off one shoulder, leotard or leggings, leg warmers. Bonus points: permed, teased and hairsprayed 80’s hair.
8. Miami Vice – Crockett and Tubbs. Go as a pair to get even more laughs with this costume. You’ll need a white suit or blazer – our Scarface costume works well – with a bright-colored T-shirt underneath, loafers, a toy cop gun, and aviator sunglasses.
